Signing in to the portal
Go to shovelradar.com/app/ and enter the email address you used when you subscribed. Click Send magic link and check your inbox for an email from noreply@shovelradar.com. Click the link in that email to be signed in instantly. No password required.
Your session stays active for 30 days on that browser. If you're on a shared computer, sign out manually when you're done by clicking your email address in the top-right corner of the dashboard and selecting Sign out.
Navigating the dashboard
The dashboard is split into two main panels:
- My Products — every product you're currently subscribed to, grouped by city. Each product shows the date of the most recent delivery.
- My Files — a chronological list of every file ever delivered to your account, newest first. Click any file name to download it immediately.
Use the search bar in the My Files panel to filter by product name, city, or date. Useful if you have many products and need to find a specific file quickly.
Which files can I access?
You can download any file from any product you're currently subscribed to, going back to the date your subscription started. Files are not available for products you have cancelled (though your download history is preserved for 90 days post-cancellation in case you resubscribe).
Strict-subset rule: if you subscribe to a bundle that includes Product A, you can also download any standalone Product A files that were delivered during your bundle subscription period — bundles always include the underlying products.
File naming convention
Files follow the format: ProductName_YYYY-MM-DD.xlsx
Example: AgedPermitHVACSlice_Calgary_2026-06-02.xlsx
The date in the file name is the delivery date (the Monday the file was generated), not the date range of the data inside. The README tab of the file documents the data's "as of" date range.
Downloading a file
Click any file name in the My Files list. The file downloads directly to your browser's default downloads folder as a standard XLSX file. There's no intermediate step or download page — the file starts immediately.
If your browser blocks the download (some corporate proxy configs do this), try:
- Right-clicking the file link and choosing "Save link as"
- Opening the portal in an incognito/private window
- Trying a different browser
- Emailing matthew@shovelradar.com — we can email the file directly
Email delivery vs portal download
Every week's file is both emailed to you and available in the portal. If an email delivery was missed (spam filter, inbox rules, etc.), the file is always in your portal — log in and download from My Files.
If you prefer email-only delivery and don't want to use the portal, that's fine too. If you prefer portal-only and want to opt out of the weekly emails, email us to update your delivery preference.
Pinning files
Files you use regularly can be pinned to the top of the My Files list. Click the pin icon () next to any file name. Pinned files stay at the top regardless of date. Useful for reference files or directories you return to often.
Troubleshooting
I subscribed but there's nothing in My Files. Files are generated Monday mornings. If you subscribed after Monday's run, your first file arrives the following Monday. Check My Products to confirm your subscription is active.
I can see the file but can't open it. Make sure you have Excel, Google Sheets, or LibreOffice installed. See Getting started for software options.
The file download starts but shows as corrupted. Try downloading again in a different browser. If the problem persists, email matthew@shovelradar.com with the file name and we'll resend it directly.
