Calgary's Assessment Review Board hears appeals when commercial / industrial / multi-residential property owners dispute their City assessment. ~108 commercial-relevant complaints filed per month (~1,300/year). Roughly 20% result in a "Decrease" decision — the property owner WINS a reduction, often $10K-$500K+ annual tax savings. Property tax consultants take 20-40% commission on the savings, so one Decrease decision can be worth $2K-$200K to them. Knowing which Calgary properties have appealed before identifies the repeat-customer universe; knowing which won decreases gives consultants case-study material to pitch new prospects.
